ABSTRACT

Jejunoileal atresia [JIA] is one of the major causes of neonatal intestinal obstruction. During the past two decades a better understanding of the etiology and improvements in anesthetic and preoperative care have led to significant improvement in survival. The survival rate of JIA in the Western literature is over 89%[2, 3, 4, 5, 6] .Morbidity and mortality in JIA have always been a concern in pediatric surgery, particularly the technique of tapering and anastomosis. To evaluate the outcome of single layer end to end anastomosis with proximal stapling enteroplasty. 38 neonates born with [JIA] from April 2003 to April 2010 were operated upon. Of the 38 neonate underwent end to end anastomosis with stapling enteroplasty without resection of the proximal segment. 35 of them are doing well. The other 3 deaths were in patients who had severed co-morbid diseases. Although the overall motility was 3/38 [0.78%].No other complications were observed

ABSTRACT

To assess if thrombocytopenia has a predictive value for bleeding and/or liver decompensation following percutaneous radiofrequency ablation [RFA] therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma [HCC] in patients with liver cirrhosis. 64 consecutive patients with cirrhosis complicated by hepatocellular carcinoma, and associated with mild thrombocytopenia ranged from 37 to 99 x 10[9] platelets/L, and had undergone percutaneous RFA for treatment 86 hccs, were retrospectively studied. Nine possible factors were analyzed for their ability to predict bleeding or liver decompensation using the Cox proportional hazards regression model; Age, sex, Child-Pugh class, etiology of cirrhosis, platelet count, prothrombin activity, number of tumors, maximum size of the tumor, and type of electrode. It was shown that platelet threshold of 37 x 10[9]/L and the other variables were not significant risk factors of bleeding. Statistical [univariante and multivariente] analysis revealed that liver decompensation was clearly linked to prothrombin activity [p = 0,010 and p = 0.006, respectively] and < 63% of prothrombin activity was found to be a significant threshold for the occurrence of liver decompensation [p = 0.003] confirmed by Cox model [p = 0.05] Mild thrombocytopenia > 37 x 109/L is not an independent risk factor of bleeding or liver decompensation after RFA therapy of HCC in patient with cirrhosis. However, in such situation a significant higher risk of liver decompensation followed the procedure was found in cases of prothrombin activity < 63%.Radiofrequency ablation, hepatocellular carcinoma, thrombocytopenia, prothrombin activity, liver cirrhosis RFA= radiofrequency ablation, HCC = hepatocellular carcinoma, US = ultrasonography, CT = computed tomography

ABSTRACT

Molecular modelling is considered to be an effective tool for the evaluation of many physical as well as spectroscopic parameters. Both Semiempirical AMI, PM5 and ab initio methods. VWN. B88LYP B88PW91. B3PW9I and B3LYP were used to study nitromethane in its gas phase. The optimized structure, some physical parameters and vibrational spectrum are calculated and discussed. The calculated optimized structure indicates that nitromethane belongs to point group C[2v]. The obtained data indicate that quantum mixing gives results comparable to both ab initio method in accuracy and semiempirical method in computation time. It is concluded that for a small structure like nitromethane quantum mixing method provides reliable results in short computation time

ABSTRACT

The ongoing progress in the spectroscopic methods of analysis, the growing awareness of our environment, and the increase in industrial activities in Egypt have recently resulted in a new interest of heavy metals content in drinking water. For the purpose of this study four sites in upper Egypt were chosen. Both Nile and ground water samples were collected for three respective months starting September 2001. The method of preconcentration of ammonium pyrolidine dithiocarbamate [APDC], followed by methyl isobutyl ketone [MIBK], has been adopted for determining the concentration of Co, Cr, Cu and Zn, using flame atomic absorption spectrometry. A matrix modifier was used for the determination of Cd, Pb and Se with graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry, Ni was determined without a matrix modifier. The obtained results indicate a variation of metal concentration in the Nile water. This is in contrast to rather constant concentrations of metals in ground water. The concentration levels of the studied metals in ground water are lower than in Nile water, but generally both water types have acceptable quality. Better water quality in upper Egypt can be obtained by improving the efficiency of water treatment

ABSTRACT

Both water and hydrogen peroxide were subjected to model study on the basis of both Semi-empirical and Density Functional Theory methods. Geometry optimization and vibrational spectrum have been discussed during the gas to liquid phase transition of water. Furthermore, the symmetric, asymmetric as well as bending bands of water have been compared with those of hydrogen peroxide. Results indicate that there is no change in molecular symmetry for water during this phase transition. In addition, the final heat of formation of hydrogen peroxide has increased more than that of water of both phases

ABSTRACT

Computational modelling provides a precise spectroscopic and structural data, and serves in many areas of research. Spectroscopy is one of these different, fields. In the present review article the computational modeling methods are discussed with a special interest subjected into density functional theory methods, DFT An overview over the basic principles of DFT, and some of its applications are presented
